Description

In this webinar, we will explore how results from EU-funded livestock research projects can be translated into practical applications, useful tools and lasting collaboration with farmers and other stakeholders. From engaging farmers in multi-actor projects to making research results easier to find and use, and applying genetic research in dairy sheep breeding, the webinar will share practical experiences and lessons for bridging research and practice.

We will be joined by:

  • Karen McGrath (Re-Livestock), Postdoctoral researcher in Agricultural extension and innovation at the School of Agriculture and Food Science, University College Dublin, Ireland.

Presentation title: Engaging AKIS actors in mult-actor project; insights and learnings from the Re-Livestock project

She will share practical lessons from engaging farmers and stakeholders in a multi-actor project, focusing on farmer recruitment, annual stakeholder workshops, and key insights for designing successful collaborative research.

  • Jean-Michel Astruc (SMARTER/ARDI2), Expert in dairy sheep genetics and breeding at the French Livestock Institute.

Presentation title: Practical applications of research results in dairy sheep breeding

He will present two examples of applying research results in dairy sheep breeding: selection for parasite resistance and cross-country genetic evaluation between French and Spanish dairy sheep, highlighting the importance of collaboration between research and field organisations.

  • Haniyeh Najafi (EU-FarmBook), PhD researcher at Ghent University, Belgium.

Presentation title: How EU-FarmBook Makes EU-Funded Livestock Research Easier to Find and Use

She will introduce EU-FarmBook, an open-access platform for finding and using practice-oriented knowledge from EU-funded projects, and show how research results can be turned into practical Learning Units.

Moderator: Geena Cartick-Dopplinger, Scientific Affairs & Innovation Manager at EFFAB.
